Cat Flea Infestation Control
There are over 2,000 species of fleas found all over the world, but for businesses and homes in Northwest and Northeast, Ohio; cat fleas are the most common species. Cat fleas are not specific to cats as they will claim nearly any host; cats, dogs, and other animals. Fleas are not only a pest, but they can spread diseases and trigger allergies, not in just pets, but people as well. Defense Pest Control has advanced training and modern technological solutions to eliminate the fleas in or outside your home.
The flea life span consists of four stages; the egg hatches to larvae, which matures into pupae, and then finally adulthood. The eggs are generally laid after a female has consumed her bloody protein meal. In most cases, the eggs are laid on the host itself, where batches are deposited consisting of 20 or so eggs. Because the eggs aren’t attached, they can simply roll onto the ground under the right circumstances. The eggs can take anywhere between two days and two weeks before they hatch. Because the eggs can be anywhere your pets have been, it is important to treat the house. Larvae hatch from the egg, and don’t begin eating blood right away. Instead they feed on other dead insects, feces, and vegetable matter. The larvae are blind, but stick to sunless areas like in beds, sand, cracks, and crevices. Pupae emerge from a silken cocoon in about 1-2 weeks after they have fed on enough food for growth. Once they have finished the three cycles of a larvae, they break free of their cocoons and look for a host; if not already on one, sensing vibrations and detecting carbon dioxide. Once in adulthood, the flea is only concerned with bloody feeding and reproduction. Adult fleas typically only live about a year; however, as long as living conditions are favorable they can live for several years.
